Re installation after windows wouldn't boot anymore

A friend of mine gave me her computer bc it wouldn't boot anymore and asked me to fix it for her. I tried a lot of things and eventually decided it's too far gone and I would just save her data and reinstall windows. The problem is: Her computer was (as far as I could tell) running windows 8 and the sticker on the side of her computer only has a windows 7 key.

How can I retrieve the key so I can install windows 8 again?
