Did I just short my motherboard with USB Type C cable?

I was trying to hook up my portable SSD with the USB C cable.

The cable is quite long. I think I accidently plugged the cable to some other ports or maybe some metal parts of the motherboard. The PC immediately turned off.

I turned on my pc, everything seems fine. Didn't even prompt me for disk check or safe mode.

Did I just short my motherboard? What saved it? The power supply? The mobo itself?

And what do I need to check to make sure no permanent damage is done? Since it's been shorted, does that mean the next time such thing happen, my PC will die since the short protection might have been "spent" in this event already?

Thanks
