Any sort of bump to my PC case freezes it up and forces me to reboot.

This is so annoying. Ever since I built this PC in May, ANY sort of bump to my desk or case freezes up my entire PC. The screen stays on but literally freezes in place and requires me to reboot. Just now I flicked my case EXTREMELY lightly to test if it would freeze and it did. I cannot stress how sensitive it is and I have no idea why.

I have a 3.8ghz overclock on my CPU which has been very stable but I don't know if it would have anything to do with this.

If the FCC gets its way, which seems likely even with the large backlash, will we be able to turn on our VPNs and bypass any ISP slowdowns or restrictions?

Connecting Macbook Pro Early 2015 to Samsung MU2690. Attempting to get 4K 60Hz display using thunderbolt 2 adapter to HDMI

I connected my Macbook (running High Sierra) to my samsung tv and it would only display 4k at 30Hz which looks very weird. I bought a thunderbolt 2 to hdmi converter which would go into my macbook and then the hdmi cable would go from the adapter to the tv. I was hoping this would give me a 4K 60Hz display but for some reason my Macbook and my tv are unable to detect each so I can't see anything. What should I do???

Just cloned everything from my old SSD to my new SSD and I am having difficulties setting my new SSD as the boot drive

I bought a new SSD because my current SSD was only 500 GB and I needed more storage. I wanted to clone my old SSD on to my new 1 TB SSD so that I could use that as my main drive and use the 500 GB one as just a storage drive for Misc. user data.

I don't know very much at all about setting boot drives or what is required but I had a few questions. In this screenshot from AOMEI Partition Assistant you can see on my old drive there is a partition that is labeled as "system" and one labeled as "boot." I am guessing that the "boot" status will switch over when I set the new drive as the boot drive but I am concerned about the "system" status. Does that need to be changed and if so how do I do it?

PS4 Bluetooth malfunction

Hello. I'm currently trying to diagnose the problem and need some advice. Bluetooth seems to break at times when I play. Then all inputs that were currently being sent by the controller just accumulate for a second and then... there's chaos, because it's like someone just grabbed your controller and pushed several buttons at random. I've bought these console 2 years ago in a fairly good state even though it was used. The issue didn't appear at first, but now it's more annoying then ever. I've only used the controller I got with the console and it did sustain some damage due to falling, also since I bought it the joysticks seem "lazy" and the touch screen loudly clicks whenever I press it. The console itself doesn't appear to have any serious issues. Could the issue appear within the PS4 itself or within the controller? I personally believe that it's the controller, but I don't know how prone to ageing the Bluetooth receiver in PS4 is. If it's the console, will normal shops that repair electronics be able to fix it?

bluetooth audio pops in and out

I have an Inspiron 7567 with Windows 10 and ever since I got it i have been getting bluetooth problems, specifically with the audio, like through headphones or bluetooth receiver to speakers.

basically whenever I play any type of audio, youtube, itunes, etc. it plays normally but then and now the audio stops and continues playing. not necessarily pausing the audio, just the speakers/headphones themselves stopped then came back on. also it usually distorts or pops the audio after it stops then continues to play normally.

also whenever i switch back to the laptops speakers, the problem never happens, so i figured the problem is with bluetooth devices.

the only other thing I have constantly connected is my wireless mouse.

its really a mystery whether or not its gonna happen after every session using my laptop.

Alienware X51 R1 - Ran Dell update for BIOS A06 (From A01) and may have bricked motherboard. Anyway to recover?

As the title says.

Ran the Dell BIOS update .exe, and as soon as my PC restarted, it died. Black screen, constant beeping (short beeps) and nothing works. Tried doing the CMOS jumper reset, unplugged the battery for 2 minutes, held the power button with all power disconnected for 60+ seconds. It's not posting no bios menu.

Nothing

Am I SOL?

Games lagging while I have video/stream open on another monitor.

Whenever I have a video or stream open my League game starts to stutter. I've tried both chrome and firefox with the same problem. It's not the computer specs, and I think it might be related to Nvidia software? I did not have this problem on my old computer.

edited: I dont seem to overload the CPU either. No hardware seems to be running at full. Seems like a program might be the problem. I've tried running both in fullscreen and windowed, problems persists.

Rear and Front Audio Ports Are Not Working

So the rear audio port for speakers is not working and neither is the front port. When I plug either my speakers or headphones into either port nothing is showing up. When I go into sound the Speakers option stays greyed out. It was working fine before and then yesterday I tried installing a wireless pci adapter and it hasn't worked since. Not sure what else to try.

Description of problem

Problem description included in pastebin link below as it was too long for reddit http://ift.tt/2iumzQA

Please note again that I'm more interested in a diagnosis as to the extent of the problem than how to actually fix it, in order to know if I need to change more than just the hard drive.

When this issue began

About two weeks ago prior to repairing, yesterday (29th Nov) after repairing, two days after I resumed using it

Recurring issue

Yes

Date of purchase

April 2016. Computer was already 2-3 years old then

Under Warranty

No

Cause/Steps to recreate the issue

Either leave the computer running idle for a while, or randomly during normal use, possibly when writing data to the hard drive (pure speculation, especially since I managed to copy over 310 GB to this new hard drive when I got my computer back and it worked perfectly)

What I've tried so far to resolve the issue

BEFORE bringing it to the repair shop:

  • MalwareBytes scan (found and deleted a few things)
  • Complete Avira scan (found things but didn't manage to delete them as it froze before the scan was over)
  • Anti-rootkit scan (TDSSKiller), found nothing
  • Loading up restore points (temporarily helped)
  • chkdsk, as well as the automatic hard drive check when Windows starts up (did nothing)
  • sfc /scannow (didn't work, as it said it needed to run a disk check first)
  • The automated Windows recovery process
  • Eventually, reinstalling Windows (see above)
  • Eventually, changing hard drives (see above as the new one might still be defective)

Selling 2 SSDs on ebay but can't wipe them

Description of problem

I currently have 2 120gb Samung SSDs that I have listed on ebay and have not been able to successful wipe them. They have been formatted and were running in a raid 0 which I think means the info was split between them. I have not had success using the Samsung magician software because it creates a bootable usb which I can't seem to boot to. The buyer is a reputable seller should I worry about my data being stolen if I sell them.

Is there an easier to just wipe these drives from withing windows without going through the whole bootable usb step?

Description of problem

http://ift.tt/2iuiXOu I just got this phone yesterday and I have noticed that this blue pixel pattern appears over most light colours in any app. I notice it on app icons, in YouTube videos, on photos etc, and it is not due to an oleophobic layer on the display or due to the colour simply being present in the photo as I tested on other devices and it looks fine: http://ift.tt/2AuhpuW.

Cause/Steps to recreate the issue

Tried same image on separate devices, tested different colours, tested different apps. Same results. Goes away if the image is tinted slightly but brightness appears to have no impact.

Made Microsoft Account for Xbox App on W10 and now the entire OS is bound to that account

I logged into the Xbox App to disable GameDVR on my sister's W10 computer, and when I made the new Microsoft account, it apparently decided that was also going to be the new Admin account for the entire OS.

Now it's forcing her to log in with my Microsoft account info when Windows boots up, and all her previous settings and shit are bound to my Microsoft account. We don't even want a log-in password on that computer to begin with, since it's a bloody Desktop.

Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to do this without prompting the user? Is there anything I can do to change this? I tried making a new User Account, but that forces her to start over with basically a blank OS.

Hp Omen 25" Not Being Recognized

I recently purchased a new HP Omen 25" monitor from Ebay during Cyber Monday for $160, and I just received it today; however, it does not work. I tested the HDMI cord - it was fine; I tested the monitor on another device - it was fine. I believe it is my computer that is the issue as it does not see the monitor. I assume my computer defaults to recognising VGA, but I am not sure.

Is there anyone able to help me?

Did I just expose myself with my iPhone email app?

I have an older model iPhone for a backup/work phone, and when I logged into my email on the email app it made me go into my email, and “enable not secure apps”. I did it, because I trusted Apple with my information as most people would. Now fast forward a day I get this weird email that’s obviously someone trying to catfish me. I never usually get spam not counting ads from big companies like Walmart. Was there a huge security flaw in the older iPhone email app that I just screwed myself over with or am I just being paranoid?

Tools or Solutions to Throttle Bandwidth on Windows 10 Home Edition Patching

Hey folks, I was wondering if any of you have any sage advice or a direction you can point me in for solving this problem:

Dealing with Windows 10 at the workplace is not a huge issue most of the time, but many members of my family have Windows 10 Home Edition on their systems at home. Every time Microsoft puts updates, usually on patch tuesday, it absolutely kills my home network. I mean that every iota of bandwidth is just sucked up, sometimes for an entire day or longer.

Changing to a better router that can handle QOS is not an option (for good reasons I won't go into here).

Upgrading them all to Professional Edition in not an option because of cost and my own time/sanity.

I've made some valiant attempts at playing around with plenty of registry keys, but I just haven't found a combination that really works. I've been able to move the download from the Delivery Optimization service to BITS, but BITS still seems to grab up alot of bandwidth when its wants it. There is a registry setting to change the maxbandwidth, but just from my own experimentation it either seems to set the speed to absolute trickle or back to full force (or the variation was just coincidence during experimentation).

So, my question to you folks: Is there a good tool to manage this on the client side? Or a proven method that I can implement on Windows 10 Home Edition?

Note: I mistakenly posted this to /r/sysadmin. xposting here because it is more appropriate.

laptop internal SSD broke

a few things:

  • based on my research of this issue the ssd has disconnected from the other circuits n shit inside the laptop, however this doesn't show when i open it up. I get errors like "boot device not found", "please install an operating system on your hard disk", "there is no hard disk installed" when messing around in BIOS/UEFI

  • i am willing to buy a new internal SSD but i am slightly worried I wont know how to put it in etc etc

  • i am working off of a linux usb currently, so I am quite certain it is the ssd that is the issue, everthing else about the computer seems fine

Computer is only running 4 GB of RAM when I have 8

Previously I had a faulty RAM stick and sent it in to have it replaced. I got it replaced and plugged the new one in, but for some reason my system can still only run 3.98 GB of RAM.

I'm running 64-bit Windows and I already checked msconfig, maximum memory is unchecked and always has been. I ran memtest86 and got no errors so I know it's not the RAM itself. Any advice?

SSD will show on boot menu but not on M.2 slot in BIOS. Is this normal?

Hey,

Here is a screenshot of my BIOS: http://ift.tt/2BxDmXM

Yesterday I was having trouble getting my SSD drive to work but somehow it started working without issues for no apparent reason. Only thing that I find strange is that it does not show up on the BIOS slot list, despite the fact that it does show on the boot menu on the right and I can load the OS installed in it just fine.

I have the latest BIOS version on ASUS site.

How do I tell google to stop omitting words from my searches?

Ie, let's say I search for:

foo bar bat baz

Google decides to show me results for: foo bar bat

and leaves baz out. Well, baz was absolutely crucial for my search, and I can't figure out why I'm getting tons of irrelevant results until....oh. It was trying to be "smart."

The solution is to wrap each word individually in quotes, which is extremely annoying.

There has to be a solution.

Thanks!

Pre-owned pc - Can't boot into Windows, This message displayed:

http://ift.tt/2AspQqI
Hi there, guys. So, there's an issue with a machine purchased secondhand. Before purchasing, i confirmed with the seller that the machine works. But, after i recieved it, i'm running into a bit of an error.

The machine boots, but the message above is displayed. Pressing f10, f2, delete does not work. Pressing fn+f2, fn+f10, fn+delete does not work.

I do get a small electronic click from inside the machine when i press some keys. The f2 and f10 keys do not click, however alt+f2, alt+f10 do click.

After trying 2 different keyboards i am a bit lost on what to do next. I sent a message to the seller asking what was done to the machine. As far as I know, the only thing done was resetting windows. I have screenshots of windows running on this machine.

What can I do to resolve this issue?

My old iPhone 5S playing up.

So I have an old iPhone 5S which I bought out right on release. I've been trying to avoid upgrading for cost reasons because I'm tight and the phone works or worked fine.

Recently it has started dying at around 17% but plugging it in gets it going again. But today it literally just died in my hands at 40%, black screen, won't turn on, nothing showed on screen so I try charging it and nothing shows up on screen (usually charge icon shows).

I try the reset by holding 2 buttons and nothing, I leave it plugged in for 5 minutes and come back to a still dead phone. At this point I'm pretty pissed off and decide to try a Russian repair job and whack the phone on my bedside table. And the damn apple logo appears and it turns on and seems fine now as I'm writing this.

I'm guessing battery issue? My firmware hasn't been updated in awhile either so could that be an issue? I don't know, but really didn't want to have to get a new phone.

Anyone know anything about this? Don't want it turning into a brick when I need it. Thanks.

Two monitors acting as one, but duplicating for full screen games, want them seperated.

So I always ran two monitors and never had an issue. They were extended across both but when I clicked 'Identify' in the monitor settings, one screen would have '1' and the other would have '2'.. now however, one screen has '1, 2' and the other has nothing.. so they're both doing the same thing. I updated my AMD drivers last night since I wanted to get AMD ReLive and since then it's been like this.

I'm sure people who know what I mean will be able to understand whats wrong already. Like, as I write this, I have this text box to write on my left screen but the submit button is across on the right screen when before one tab would be stuck to one screen, not stretched across both.

Also, one of the monitors has gone kind of blurry since I updated. The text is kind of blurry and the colors are a little bit off. I'm using an AMD Radeon GPU.

Thanks in advance for the help! :)

Can't Get A-10 7850K To Reach 3.7GHZ Or Anywhere Close

I have an AMD A-10 7850K I'm using as a processor with the APU function disabled in favor of an actual graphics card.

I've now noticed my CPU clock speeds won't go above 2.33 GHz despite the chip supposed to be defaulting at 3.70GHz. I've run stress tests and tried CPU cryptocurrency mining and neither will bring my clock speed up or Task Manager utilization to 100%.

I've included a screenshot while putting the CPU under load if anyone could please help me get the most out of this already underpowered chip that would be incredible.

Using the same methods I tested another computer and was able to get max clock speed and core utilization. Furthermore, when the A-10 goes under load it seems to go down in clock speed despite having thermal margins of around 7 degrees celsius.

Also worth noting is that Windows Task Manager utilization never goes past 50% even when core usage is supposedly at 100% according to Overdrive and CPU-Z

http://ift.tt/2nifZyt

http://ift.tt/2zDkqFI

http://ift.tt/2ngv5Eq

My multiplier is set to 37x according to Overdrive :(

I disabled my bios equivilant of Cool'n'Quiet and set Minimum Performance to 99% in windows and still haven't seen 3.0 GHZ.

http://ift.tt/2zDkrJM

Speeds throttle down to 1.6GHZ under load even with thermal headroom

Computer not booting into Safe Mode (or at all currently)

I was attempting to remove avast software with their removal tool. In order to do this, it is recommended you go into safe mode. For some reason I have not been able to enter safe mode using the typical method so I selected for Windows to boot into safe mode upon restart in the system configuration tool. I feel like that was a mistake as after I restart I only get a blank screen. My computer is on and running, but nothing comes up at all. I can't seem to boot in at all, and I can't toggle the option off in system configuration because I can't get there. Does anyone know a relatively painless solution to this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Laptop keeps adjusting brightness automatically whenever I switch to a new program.

Idk if specs are important for this question.

I bought a Laptop like 6 months ago and never had these problems before. It's only been there since like a week.

So basically whenever I open a new program or a new tab on chrome my brightness gets adjusted automatically even if I don't want to. The brightness stays the same till I open a new program/tab and then it will either get brighter or more dark.

Can someone please help me with this?

I've already turned off "automatic brightness adjustments" in the windows options.

Pc has been playing up for far too long now, need help because i dont understand the problem (Sound issue) which causes my tinnitus to start up.

Hi all first off ignore the user name it was just to make someone i know salty. For the past several months now i have been dealing with some weird sound issue I've never had in other PC builds before and its hurting my ears because i suffer with tinnitus.

Whenever i am listening to youtube music videos i get lots of clicks / pops and distorted sounds, especially at the start of new videos a pop/click or distorted noise will always happen! (I listen to youtube playlists when doing anything on my pc) - But a new issue has been happening to me the past several months where the standard issues will happen but then my audio dies (i guess?) because all of the sudden a really LOUD ear destroying noise will happen and im forced to take off my headphones. (It sounds like a kind of static you find on old tvs when switching to another static channel)

Anyway i have a few print screens i would like people to take look at:

http://ift.tt/2nlNOPg and http://ift.tt/2zDkgOC on the first picture WHEN my sound does make this awful static-type noise the bars will just go full red and stay red, the pc is impossible to shut down and if im on a game it will crash the game no matter what game it is and it will also crash firefox and other applications of programs if i have them open.

I have updated my pc repeatedly over the past several months but im not sure what causes the issue the only thing I've been told by one of my irl friend is that "it could be that the power supply isnt strong enough when running through the computer and having too many usbs plugged in" I should note however i only have my dac, keyboard and mouse in, i have nothing else plugged in USB wise.

Im honestly willing to try anything if you need a list of my pc parts they can be found on this picture: http://ift.tt/2nj8BTi i do not have my sound plugged in because that is the issue currently.

If you need to see what DAC and headphones i use they can be found here: http://ift.tt/2zDkhlE i use the 80 OHM version and the dac i use is this: http://ift.tt/2nifTa5

Please help i honestly cant use my pc anymore in its current state! My issue used to rarely happen and its already done it 6 times today in the past 40 or so mins.

Thank you for your time.

Here's a picture of what I'm dealing with - http://ift.tt/2k8HvNw

I went and laid down for a couple hours and came back to this. I have 2 monitors one connected to my GTX 970 and another to the CPU. ( the one with the issue is connected to the 970 )

Things ive tried: - Tried swapping to a different cable, same problem. - I connected the HDMI from the 970 to another monitor with the original cable, No issue. - Connected the monitor with the problem to the CPU, and its fixed. But I need this monitor to be connected to the 970.

So the main problem seems to be the 970 to just my main monitor, Any ideas?

Okay, so I admit that I was installing some things when I realized something was up halfway during the boot up for an exe when my chrome page suddenly closed. I immediately closed the exe and rebooted chrome and found that I had been logged out of my google accounts and the new tab page had changed.http://ift.tt/2nghwoM

I couldn't fix this so I reinstalled chrome and found that it turned up again but this time with another extension "My1tab". I am able to disable this new one but I can't find what is causing this issue.I can't find any questionable installations in my control panel and I have destroyed all traces of Google Chrome from my hard drive. Also I have found that my computer now has a back-up to windows 7... Data Journalism Awards 2018: call for entries

Data Journalism—the skill of combining reporting with data—is becoming an increasingly important part of every journalist’s toolkit. That’s not just anecdotal: a recent study commissioned by the Google News Lab found that half of all news outlets have at least one dedicated data journalist.

So, for the seventh consecutive year, we’re proud to support the 2018 Data Journalism Awards.

These are the only global awards recognizing work that brings together data, visualization and storytelling. It’s a part of our commitment to supporting innovative journalism around the world.

Data journalists, editors and publishers are encouraged to submit their work for consideration using this form by March 29, 2018. But don’t get too comfortable with that deadline, early applications are encouraged.

Last year there were 573 entries from 51 countries across five continents. Past winners of the $1,801 prizes include include BuzzFeed, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, FiveThirtyEight, ProPublica, and La Nación, as well as smaller organizations such as Rutas Del Conflicto, Civio Foundation and Convoca. And if you’re wondering why the prize is $1,801, It’s because William Playfair invented the pie chart in 1801.

Aimed at newsrooms and journalists in organizations of all sizes, the 2018 awards will recognize the best work in key categories, including:

  • Data visualization of the year
  • Investigation of the year
  • News data app of the year
  • Data journalism website of the year
  • Best use of data in a breaking news story, within first 36 hours
  • Innovation in data journalism
  • Open data award
  • Small newsrooms (one or more winners)
  • Student and young data journalist of the year
  • Best individual and team portfolio

The competition is organized by the Global Editors Network: a cross-platform community of editors-in-chief and media professionals committed to high-quality journalism, with the support of Google and the Knight Foundation.

The Data Journalism Awards offer another way to foster innovation by partnering with the news industry, in addition to our efforts with the Digital News Initiative. A jury of peers from the publishing community will decide on the winners.

Winners will be announced in May 2018 at a ceremony in Lisbon. Good luck!

Introducing AIY Vision Kit: Make devices that see

[Lenovo T460] My laptop is freezing, then the screen slowly turns grey/black spreading from the left side.

So I was dumb and didn't turn my computer off before flying, and ever since then, my computer will sometimes lock up and start getting this weird darkness spreading from the left-hand side of the screen.

Picture when it's fully spread

I know it's a hardware issue because when I tap my computer on either side of the trackpad (where the harddrive is) it will unfreeze and the darkness will go, but until I restart the computer, the screen flickers.

I've taken out the hard drive and just sprayed down the area with air and tried cleaning the connections and making sure the harddrive was in securely, but the problem still persists.

I guess I want to know if it's as simple as a busted harddrive that I can just replace by myself, or some other problem I don't know. Thanks a bunch.

Some dumb shit happening with my Xbox One when I switch from monitor to TV display....

So, I thought I was crazy at first (well, I am crazy) but then it kept happening.

If my xbox is off, and I plug a HDMI from my TV into my main monitor port.. The xbox comes on. Every time. This didn't always happen, and I don't know what's changed to make it happen.

It's fucking weird.

PC can see Server, but Server doesn't see PC.

I'm trying to connect my PC to the networks server and I'm having minimal success.

The PC recognizes the Server in the Network Tab and when I go into the tab I can access a set of public folders on the server that has been preset.

However, with the files I've tried to share over the network I get a pop-up message that states I don't have permission.

I've set the shared settings to all of the same users that have access to the Public folder and set the security to allow everyone on public and private networks with no passwords.

Both computers firewalls are down and I can ping them from each other. What the hell is my problem?

Thanks in advanced, this is for work and I've been trying to get this working since yesterday.

Mysterious issue when going to sleep/hibernate

Whenever I send my Windows 7 computer to sleep/hibernate for the first time, it will act normally. It goes straight to sleep if I have hibernation turned off, or goes into hybrid sleep if I have hibernation turned on. Waking works normally. However, on the second time, the computer will not go to sleep. It sits and spins for about 5 minutes before throwing a BSOD and shutting down. My only workaround is to shut down instead of sleeping on the second time. This has happened ever since I built this computer.

Here's the odd thing, though - a few months ago I had one good streak where I could send my computer to sleep consistently, with no hardware changes. Eventually it did crash again, but I didn't save the dump before I ended up cleaning them out.

What I've done

  • Here's my BlueScreenView entries. For all entries, the crash address is ntoskrnl.exe+6f4c0.

  • Ran memtest - all of my memtest tests came away clean.

  • I used my Win7 installation media to try and repair the OS, but nothing appeared to be wrong.

  • Installed any and all updates to see if the issue was patched at some point.

  • Short of reinstalling the OS, I do not think I have any other options.

Specifications

  • Windows 7 Ultimate SP1, up to date

  • ASRock H97m-ITX/AC

  • Intel i5-4690k @3.5GHz

  • G.Skill Ripjaws X 16GB 1600MHz (part number F3-12800CL10D-16GBXL)

  • PNY CS1311 240GB SSD (OS drive,) WD Blue 1TB (part number WD10EZEX), Seagate ST3250310CS

  • ASUS GTX 960 4GB (part number STRIX-GTX960-DC2OC-4GD5)

Company internet has some sort of access requirement. Am I safe to bypass it with a Lan cable?

Essentially I am working for a company abroad, and the accommodation internet is awful. The company internet needs to allow access from their side (they have some sort of wait list for devices that are trying to access I guess), but in my room is a router since I'm in a high ranking employees room since he is on leave.

My question is, if I bypass their waiting list (or whatever, I don't know if there is a technical term), will it get flagged as an attack or something?

P.S. I'm really not that savvy with this stuff so sorry if I murdered this explanation of the issue.

All but 2 USB ports not working every time my computer boots up

Every time I boot my computer up, all but 2 (mouse and keyboard) USB ports are not functional. I found a temporary solution online where I have to manually uninstall every USB host driver in device manager and then restart, but even that only works until I reboot, and I'd like to not have to do that every time I boot my computer up. If anyone can offer help or any possible solutions it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

My Samsung Grand 2 keeps booting to Recovery Mode! Help!

Hello Redditers, My Samsung Grand 2 started doing some funny business like lowering volume by itself, showing that the headphones are connected although their not, and that's about it. I decided to factory reset it, and one week later it is still showing the same screen every time I boot it up. I have tried every single way of recovery but they all didn't work. Here is what I did: I removed the battery, I turned it off normally, I turned it off removing the battery, I booted it clicking some buttons like volume down, and I have tried connecting it to my computer(It didn't detect the phone). Thanks.

High-pitch noise in all devices.

Hello guys, I usually do intensive search when I have a problem, but after 2 days I've given up and here I am asking what is happening. So here is the story: about two weeks ago we installed a heat exchanger in our house (to heat the house up in winter), and right after switching it up, almost all the other devices make a high-pitch noise (computer/tv/ anything with a transformer). When we switch the heat exchanger off, the noise stops, any ideas what exactly causes that noise, voltage fluctuations or what?

svchost.exe receiving @ 21mpbs

Noticed network performance issues, initially thought it was Apple TV or something along those lines however went to check my network monitor on main PC to find that svchost was doing insane amounts of 'receiving'. Shut off my network adapter immediately and coincidentally the network returned back to normal for all other devices.

Installed and did a scan via malwarebytes - result found some .dll's for fromdocpdf, cleaned them all however its still doing crazy high amounts of receiving.

Only think I recall doing prior to this happening was install virtualbox with a pfsense image. Didnt even get to fully configure it so not too sure WTH is going on.

Left and right thirds of notebook screen are flickering and having problem with screening image. Video included.

HERE IS THE VIDEO

Hello guys.

I have pretty big problem with my notebook screen. As you can see in video, my left and right third of the screen are having problem with screening image. This only happens to my notebook screen - when I connect external screen everything is fine.

This problem can be temporary "fixed" by adjusting screen angle. But this is not a solution since only a little bit of movement will bring problems back.

Right now I can not take my notebook to the repair shop since I need my notebook everyday because of school. I am also pretty scared to open my notebook on my own because I do not want to screw up even more.

I am pretty bad with HW but since this does not happen on external screen I assume that either cable in notebook is damaged or my screen is dying and needs to be changed.

Do you have any idea what the problem might be? Can this be fixed easily at home?

My internet isnt working on my laptop. Im able to use the internet on other devices and get 4 successful pings from cmd. No viruses either.

I was just watching some videos on youtube and then the internet stopped loading. At first i thought it was a router issue so i doubled checked it on my phone (with data turned off) and it worked. To my confusion i tested it with my tablet (that has no data at all) and it still worked. Then i thought it was a virus so i ran a scan and nothing came up. Then i used the windows troubleshoot and they said there was no issue connecting to the internet. To double check this i used cmd to ping a few sites and all were successful. The laptop thinks the internet is working in everyway but isn't loading any webpage. Ive been using this laptop for 8 years and never had this issue. I use avg as an antivirus and malawarebytes as a remover and never had this issue. What do you think i should do?

Im using an old firefox but the internet doesnt work on my other browsers either

Windows 10 is completely freezing at random intervals, no blue screen

Hello! Ever since the latest feature update for Windows 10, I've been experiencing periodic freezes that force me to completely turn off my machine and reboot it.

Listed below are the specs for my machine:

OS Name Microsoft Windows 10 Pro

Version 10.0.16299 Build 16299

System Type x64-based PC

Processor AMD FX(tm)-8300 Eight-Core Processor, 3300 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)

Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 16.0 GB DDR3

Graphics Card nVidia GeForce GTX 1060 3 GB

When the crashes have happened has been variable; in one instance, upon loading Google Chrome and trying to access a website, the computer froze. It has crashed in the middle of running some gaming applications like Overwatch, but weirdly seems to crash more often when trying to boot Overwatch as well.

Troubleshooting steps taken:

Used Blizzard's Repair option to fix Overwatch (but the crashes still continued after, so the below steps were taken)

Updated graphics drivers to latest version

Double-checked virtual memory to make sure it is at a desired level

Used rkill and Malwarebytes to check for any malware (no malicious software was detected)

It'd be nice if my machine would give me the courtesy of giving me a blue screen so I can get an error code, but unfortunately that hasn't happened yet. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

So like it says in the title, my high school is making every student install a security certificate in order to access the wifi. From how they explained it, it seems like they will track and log everything you do when it is installed. My question is, will this certificate track everything I do even when I am not connected to the schools wifi? Like if I am sitting at home and messing around, will they still be able to see my traffic? If this is true, is there any way to get around this or protect my internet traffic? I have a windows laptop if that matters. Thanks

A Visual Guide to my Computer dying

Ive included my problems in an imgur album, i took screenshots along the way as over the course of a day my computer turned into a practically unusable mess. http://ift.tt/2inYcEq

Im thinking that either my Ethernet connection is corrupted somehow, or maybe my motherboard got fried (we had a pretty windy storm while my computer was on, but no power surges/outages that I know of)

One thing i couldn't get pictures of was the graphical glitches I was getting while using integrated graphics, my screen would intermittently go black and sometimes the entire screen would "shake" up and down rapidly until the screen went black again and the image would go back to normal. When i started up memtest my screen started flashing much more than before and I saw white flecks (a bit like static on a slightly worn VHS tape) but then the screen went black for about 30 seconds and now it seems fine.

I want to use my second monitor as a second computer with a separate keyboard and mouse, is this possible?

I'm running win10 with a 4k and 1080 monitor, the 1080 is mirrored to my TV. I have a usb wireless keyboard and I want my wife to be able to use that with the tv to essentially have her own computer on that second screen.

I'd love if there were a way to do this without a VM specifically, simply because I'm worried about it eating resources. Is there? Or should I not be too worried about the performance impact? (4690k, gtx 1070, 16gb RAM)

Skin tone colour going from pink to red intermittantly, Windows 10, Intel iGPU.

Intel z370 board (Asrock) with the UHD 630 graphics driver. Problem happens on both my monitors, in windowed or full screen mode, it seems to be specific to Chrome.

I've tried 2 sets of drivers for the GPU, is there a Chrome feature which causes this?

Example video here. http://ift.tt/2imJddD

In Firefox 57, that video is fine, in Chrome it seems to switch from a pale yellowy, to bright red oversaturated, back and forth, almost intermittantly.

NOTE: The intel drivers have the "fiddle with skin tone thingo" option, unticked and disabled.

MSI won't honor my warranty because they claim this is water damage

I recently had an issue where the keyboard on my MSI laptop stopped working. Fortunatly, it had one more week where it was under warranty, so I packed it up and shipped it off to them. I got an email today saying that they were not going to cover it because it had water damage. They sent this picture.

http://ift.tt/2i2BqxQ

I have not spilled any liquid on this laptop. The only thing I can think is that it was pretty humid when the laptop failed, but it seems like a laptop should be able to handle normal humidity.

Is this water damage? Is there anything I can say to them to get them to cover this (as this feels like a cop out)? Are there any other options?

Firefox 57, noscript addon forces maximized window to windowed mode

Here is a demonstration. This is in FireFox 57 Noscript 10.1.3

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7uvvfw7T_w

Things I've done:

  • Removed the addon and closed Firefox, reinstalled addon
  • Uninstalled FireFox removed profile data and reinstalled.
  • Recently had to re-isntall the OS, so this OS install is ~15 hours old.

Other things to note:

When the maximized window goes into windowed mode and I set a site to be trusted the settings do not save after restarting the browser.

CPU fan gets loud frequently for no reason

I just upgraded my desktop with a new CPU, motherboard, and RAM. While using it I noticed the sound of a fan getting pretty loud for a couple seconds ever few minutes. After some inspection I discovered it was the CPU fan which was the culprit. Checking my temps I'm idling around 35-40°C and the temperature doesn't go up when the fan whirs up. I made sure the everything was properly screwed in so the heatsync and fan weren't loosely connected. Anyone know why this is happening and a possible fix?

[SUGGESTED READING] Official Malware Removal Guide

Official Malware Removal Guide

by: /u/cuddlychops06 for /r/techsupport // Updated: September20th, 2017.

Changelog: 9/20/17 - Updated some screenshots, removed JRT recommendation - see below

If you suspect you are infected with Crypto malware (Cryptowall, Cryptolocker, TeslaCrypt, etc) DO NOT follow this guide! Please make a post instead. Your files are at stake.

Purpose & Scope of this Guide:

This guide is designed to assist you in removing malware from an infected system that successfully boots. If your computer is completely unable to boot due to malware, please make a post, as this guide will not help you. If you perform the following steps exactly as described, this will solve your problem in over 90% of scenarios. That said, not all malware is created equal, and not all malware removal tools are created equal. The tools recommended in this guide were picked because of their high success and low failure rates, measured on a very large scale. However, there will be times that this guide fails in removing malware. If that is the case, please make a post for further assistance, stating that this guide was unsuccessful. It is recommended to only accept advice from a “Trusted” technician. I am writing this guide in layman’s terms so that most people will be able to understand it with ease.

Disclaimer:

The following instructions are recommendations only. You take full responsibility for any steps you choose to perform on your computer. While the following recommendations are performed without issue on countless machines, there is always a risk of damaging your Operating System or experiencing data loss on any machine. It is solely YOUR responsibility to save all work and back up any and all important data on your system before proceeding. Also note that once a computer has been compromised with malware, it should not be considered clean until a complete reformat has taken place.

Malware Remediation Steps:

Before proceeding, go into your browser’s extensions and remove all suspicious items. Also go into your browser’s settings and remove any default search providers and unusual homepages. If you are unsure how to do this, proceed to Step 1.

Download and run the following tools in this order. Run all tools unless otherwise instructed. All tools should be run in Normal Mode (not Safe Mode) unless you are unable to boot Normal Mode, or the scans fail in Normal Mode. All tools must be run under an Administrator account. Do not remove any tool-generated logs in the event a helper needs you to post them to further assist you.

1) Run rkill.com. Sometimes it takes a few minutes to finish. Do not reboot when done.

  • Kills running malicious processes

  • Removes policies in the registry that prevent normal OS operation

  • Repairs file extension hijacks

2) Download an updated copy Malwarebytes 3.0. Turn on the “Scan for Rootkits” option. Then, run a “Scan

  • Successfully removes the vast majority of infections
  • Has an industry-leading built-in rootkit/bootkit scanning engine
  • Has built-in repair tools to fix damage done by malware

3) Run Malwarebytes ADWCleaner using the “Scan” option.

  • Removes majority of adware, PuPs, Toolbars, and Browser hijacks
  • Fixes proxy settings changed by malware
  • Removes certain non-default browser settings

NOTE: It is no longer necessary to run JRT. The JRT definitions have been rolled into ADWCleaner by Malwarebytes. JRT no longer provides additional benefit.

Optional, Advanced Step (only run if previous tools fail to solve problem):

4) Run Sophos HitmanPro

  • Here is HitmanPro.

HitmanPro is a phenomenal "second-opinion" malware scanner.

Please note: If malware has prohibited you from browsing the web or downloading files, you can try running the NetAdapter Repair Tool with all options checked which will attempt to restore your internet connection & default browser settings. You may have to download these tools on another computer and move them to a flash drive that you can plug into the infected machine.

Have adware or spyware on your Mac?

Try Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac (formerly Adware Medic). Please make a post if it is unsuccessful.

If you have run all of the above tools successfully, you should be malware-free. If you are still experiencing problems, please make a post in /r/techsupport for further assistance.

Follow-up Steps (highly recommended):

  • Using a computer that has not been infected, change passwords to all your online accounts.
  • Consider enabling two-factor authentication.
  • Install a better anti-virus. See recommendations below.

What is malware?

Malware is an umbrella term used to refer to a variety of forms of hostile or intrusive software, including computer viruses, worms, trojan horses, ransomware, spyware, adware, scareware, and other malicious programs. It can take the form of executable code, scripts, active content, and other software. [Source: Wikipedia.com]

How did I get infected?

It is difficult to track down the source of an infection. Most infections are actually given permission to run unknowingly by the user. It is recommended to keep User Account Control turned on and never give access to something you do not trust or did not open. Many other infections come via exploits in your browser or browser plug-ins on websites you visit. Always be very careful what you install. Make sure you trust the source implicitly. When downloading programs, always use the publisher’s website directly.

How to prevent future infections:

Be very careful what you download and install. Keep programs like Java & Flash up-to-date, but do so using their official websites or Ninite installers. Use Unchecky to prevent accidental installation of adware & spyware during product installations. Make sure Windows is kept up-to-date as well. Many Windows updates patch exploits and vulnerabilities in your operating system. Most infections are active because the user has unknowingly given it Administrative permission to install and run. The first line of defense starts with you.

On the manufacturers site it says that ram isn't upgradable yet, there are two slots for said ram. When I plugged in a 4Gb stick to the second slot it won't post. No Toshiba splash screen no nothing. But when I remove it, its like nothing was wrong.

I heard it may be a bios issue, but I just want to run it by the "think tank" before I risk a bios update.

What data logging do university’s have access to for a university owned Office 365 subscription?

More specifically: Word 2016. I know they can probably get the open/close times of the document, everything that’s been saved, etc. Do they have access to every unsaved iteration of document recovery that word makes? Do they have logging of every keystroke made?

Edit: A better question may be what can they see that isn’t on the Microsoft Office Alerts in Event Viewer.

Edit 2: Currently digging in event viewer trying to learn everything recorded on here. Looks like barely anything. What data is sent over the internet from my computer about office? IT doesn’t want to answer anything about this

Weird stuff on motherboard

Hey guys, I️ have a MSI 970 gaming motherboard and whilst looking around and cleaning I️ noticed a lot of dust “stuck” to this one place. I️ look closer and there seems to be some liquid or something that dropped onto the board. It’s only on that one spot and I’m not sure what it is. The boards been fine and I’m not sure how long it was there. Just want to know what to do thanks!

Not sure where to start with my upgrade... (computer dummie here)

Just bought a new GTX 1070 ti FTW2 and I just realised my build is lacking when it comes to RAM (I have 2x4gb of DDR3)... Do you think I could just buy another 8gb (2x4gb) of DDR3 RAM to make it 16gb total? I have four slots on my motherboard and I only use two. I seriously don't know anything about computers, my friend built the one I have right now 4 years ago...

My goal would be to run games like battlefield 1/far cry 5 at 1440p with good frame rates.

Here's my RAM: http://ift.tt/2njQTPQ... This is my motherboard: http://ift.tt/2AnojlF... My CPU: http://ift.tt/2njQUmS... My powersupply: http://ift.tt/2Ao0w59...

If you guys could please help me build something of quality that won't destroy my wallet that would be great. I want honesty so if there's something in there that needs an upgrade just tell me. Thanks!

2008 Mac Pro Server

Description of problem

So I'm not sure if this belongs here but I thought someone here may be able to help me out.So I picked up two 2008 Mac Pros from an electronics recycling center so that I could teach myself how to build a home media server. The intention was to install ubuntu server on one of them and use components from the other if needed. Turns out I believe the graphics cards in both are not working. Because I intend to use one of them for a server I really don't need a monitor other than to set up and do software maintenance.I was wondering If anyone knows any clever tricks to display the boot up screen so I can install Ubuntu without the graphics card.I was thinking about trying to install Ubuntu on the hard drive externally with another computer and then reinstall the hard drive but I wasn't sure if the installation would require the same hardware in both machines for this to work.

Huge drops in gaming performance after taking out my CPU then putting it back in

So I stupidly bought a new processor that didn't fit my mobo. After realizing this, I put back in my old one and booted up my computer. After this, I booted up XCOM 2 (which normally runs pretty well) at an abysmal frame rate. Civ 6 also couldn't even make it past the loading screen after 5 minutes of waiting.

Its temperature idles at around 40-45celcius, and jumping up to 50-65celcius in-game (XCOM).

I'm not sure what could be causing this as I didn't actually change anything. My system is Windows 10 with an i3-4130 CPU @ 3.40GHz

HD Monitor displays a stretched 4:3 aspect ratio

At my job there is one computer in the back office. Yesterday as I was leaving I was asked to look at the computer because something was off with it. At first glance I instantly knew that it was a screen resolution issue.

I went to go change the display settings only to find that I had 3 choices. 800 x 600, 1024 x 768, and I think the last one was 1280 x 800 but I can't quite remember. Only things I could really think to do was update the drivers and check out the settings on the monitor itself. They basically told me that it just changed randomly and no one did anything.

I apologize for my lack of specifics, but given how it isn't my PC I have no idea what the specs are. It was some sort of HP monitor.

Mouse Input Issue

Mousepad - SteelSeries QcK+ Mousepad

GPU - MSI GTX 1060 6GT OCV1

CPU - Intel Core i5 i5-6402P

Motherboard - MSI B150M Bazooka

RAM - GeIL 8GB DDR4 (PC4 17000)

I have noticed that occasionally on my PC there is a sudden slow in my mouse movement/cursor movement randomly. The first part of this video shows how, even though I am consistently turning, the mouse movement randomly slows down. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ue5CmXuRSls (don't mind my friend in the background). I have tried researching, but nothing is clear as to why this is happening. I checked the drivers to make sure there isn't an update that is causing the issue and they are all up to date. My suspicion is that it may be caused by heavy use of my processor.

PC desktop screen flickers between on and a black screen every half second after powering on. Only task manager will work properly.

I have a Windows 10 PC. When I power it on, I reach the login screen just fine, but once I log in.

The desktop flickers between being on and black about every half second. It seems like when it flicks to black, everything just gets reset. I can open the task manager and that works correctly without flickering, but nothing else works. Here is a gif of what it looks like: http://ift.tt/2k9DWXC

The closest thing I can find to what is happening to my computer is this Microsoft support ticket, which seems to suggest that I have a new app that is causing a problem, but I've deleted all the new programs I've downloaded in the last couple days and what's left is just some videogames on steam that had been updated a week ago and caused no problems then.

http://ift.tt/2e1Z8XZ

I can't even run an antivirus scan. If I open in safe mode, MalwareBytes won't run (it crashed the first time I got it open and hasn't been working since) and Windows Defender won't allow me to open in safe mode. Not sure what to do. I'm a hair's breadth away from just trying to reinstall Windows, but it's kinda a hassle and I feel like this shouldn't be a big a problem as it is. Any help would be very much appreciated.

DV, M-JPEG, or MPEG2 for digitizing my cassette tapes with a dazzle/pinnacle studio?

There is also a datarate option, which I maxed out at '10Mbit' because I thought in general that would be better.

I have a tons of cassette tapes I found while cleaning out the basement, along with the original recorder. I also had a dazzle lying around so I want to digitize all the videos but I am not sure which format to use.

Whenever my brother gets mad at me, he blocks my IP from accessing the router and goes to sleep. Any way to get around this?

I'm on Ethernet, if that changes anything. I don't have access to the router admin page, and, ideally, I'd like to not have to reset the router. I don't really have the technical knowledge to know what I'm doing, and it will only frustrate my dad.

Is there a way to change my IP to pass his blocking? Is there any way to route my bandwidth through his IP (he leaves his computer on and next to mine).

Although I know I should probably handcuff him to a chair or something, but I'd like to avoid continued escalations, because it makes my dad sad that his children can't get along.

Can't get my computer to boot

All the screens I've been able to access http://ift.tt/2im9uZS I've been seeing an occasional blue screen of iqrl not less or equal to for a while, and I'm still not sure if that's what is causing this problem, but if I see any screen that gives me options, and I have to select one and hit enter, it just goes back and forth between the two options and I can't give any other inputs which is the second picture. If I try startup repair, it hangs on loading files, even if I boot from my windows 7 disk, tried safe mode, I get a single key press, then it stops registering my keyboard inputs, the keyboard light is still on though. Sorry about crappy grammar and spelling franticly typing this up on a phone. If you have any Idea what the problem is, even if it's not a solution it will help a lot.

Update, plugged in one of my older drives, booted perfectly, still won't boot from install disk

Update 2: unplugged my new mouse, finally got into startup repair, dunno if computer gods are showing mercy, or I actually found the problem, need to let this run for a bit, will update when I run into another roadblock or if I solve the problem.

Empowering changemakers with Daydream Impact

[Q&A]: Behind the scenes: the making of Jamboard

Received a Word document by email with malware. Can someone help me analyze this?

I received a Word document by email. It appeared to come from a known sender as part of a message chain that had actually occurred (i.e. the text content was legitimate).

People faking senders, I catch all the time. Having the correct content threw me off and I opened the Word document. Upon closing the document, My firewall told me that Powershell was requesting internet access - which I denied, as I recognized what was going on. I deleted my temp folder contents and immediately ran a virus scan - but this isn't going to be caught.

I went back into the Word document - sandboxed, this time - and I extracted the macros. I believe it creates an executable - or at least, an executable script, and then runs it.

I need help determining what the final script is so that I can see what damage was done and whether there's anything left on my machine.

How did they get my number and name, should I be worried?

So after reading on my normal news paper about Lite coins and bit coins I search "Litecoins" In to google. I the went to the first link (http://ift.tt/19kguuB) that was not a paid placement. When I get on to the site I just watch the graph a few minutes befor my phone pings "New text!" With joy I open it to see (yea, I get happy when I get texts). But it's a number I have never seen (+855 1770256) and the text says "Hi (myname) Your registration approved Ride The Wave of Bitcoin and Earn 999% in no time! http://hopt.pro/"

So now I wonder how they know my name and my phone number, anyone else this has happend too? What should I do? Or is this just random timing from something else? I tried searching up the number but didn't find any answears and haven't checked the link in the text

PC suddenly suffering framerate stuttering every few seconds in any and all games.

Hello /r/TechSupport,

I have had my computer for almost a year now, and it has worked flawlessly up to this point. All of a sudden, I am having frame stuttering every few moments in every single game, including games a potato should be able to run like ROBLOX and Euro Truck Simulator 2 (on lowest settings!). I have attempted every single fix I can find online, but nothing has worked, including forcing adaptive v-sync in Nvidia settings, cleaning the inside of my PC, running McAfee anti-virus, as well as moving the game to my SSD to make sure my HDD wasn't failing. When I monitored my computer while running a game, there were no noticeable spikes in anything when the stuttering occurs, which leads me to believe that my RAM and CPU are perfectly fine. I am at the point where I am almost giving up. While running Fraps to monitor my framerate, I noticed that what is actually happening is it is randomly dropping from 60 to 30 fps, but only for a moment.

Parts:

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 - 8GB - ASUS STRIX RGB (VR-Ready)

Power Supply: 1000 Watt - Standard 80 PLUS Bronze

Motherboard: MSI Z170A Gaming Pro Carbon -3x PCIe x16, 1x USB 3.1 Type-C, 2x USB 3.0, 1x M.2, DDR4 Memory w/ RGB LED

Processor Cooling: Asetek 550LC 120mm Liquid CPU Cooler - Standard 120mm Fan

Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-6700K Processor (4x 4.00GHz/8MB L3 Cache) - Intel® Core™ i7-6700K

Memory: 16 GB [8 GB X2] DDR4-3000 Memory Module - ADATA XPG Z1

These are the games that I have experienced the error in (this includes all the recent games I have played since experiencing the error):

ROBLOX (highest settings, 1080p monitor)

Euro Truck Simulator (Highest settings, 1080p monitor. Highest settings, 4k monitor. Lowest settings, 4k monitor)

Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition (Highest settings, 1080p monitor).

Thanks for any help, Justicescooby

PS: I have no way to revert to former versions of Windows, so I am out of luck if Windows 10 Creator Update is the issue.

How do I prepare harddrive for a new motherboard + CPU?

So I've been trying to figure out how to do this, and I've seen mention of running a windows program called sysprep but that's all I've found so far. Will this work? Sorry for sounding like a total noob, all the hdds I've installed to this day have been brand new, never had to do this.

Any help would be much appreciated!

My adapter doesn’t fit into the computer?

I bought a new computer and I couldn’t fit my monitor cable in it so I bought an adapter but it doesn’t fit either even though I’m like 90% sure that it’s the same type. What do I do? The cable to my monitor is VGA and my computer only has a DVI socket. Are there different types of DVI sockets?

Accidentally deleted Windows 10 Snipping Tool, was wondering how to recover it or re-download it.

As the title says, I accidentally got rid of this application and i can't seem to figure out how to re-download it.

Transfer google photos from old limited storage to the new unlimited storage

A few years back google announced they would be making google photos unlimited for storage. My issue is that all my photos from before then are still on the old storage and are counting towards my google drive storage. Is there a way to transfer the photos over to the unlimited?

Is there any way to install windows 7 after windows Vista format?

I just got a tower from a relative that needs to be formatted, but it has Windows Vista OS. I would like to format the hard drive but reinstall windows 7 rather than Vista. Is there any way I can do this without an installation disc or USB?

PC turns on then off. Continuous cycle

So I just rebuilt a PC. It was my brothers. I can't get the PC to turn on for more than 2 seconds before it restarts. Now it's in this neverending circle of trying to start up. Any help?

i7-4790k, Z97 extreme6 Mobo. I feel like I'm missing something simple but idk. 8 pin power is commented. The 24 pin as well. Drives are commented and I followed abyoutune video for the front panel commectors.

Any idea what I can do here?

Edit: Not getting far enough to hear POST beeps

Turning on from the mobo instead of front panel button does the same thing.

My girlfriend has a basic laptop with only a 25GB SSD. This leaves very little space, is there any way to shrink windows install or move certain items/folders to an SD card?

A2 error every time I boot my computer up or restart; temp fix has been unplugging my SSD and replugging it into different ports

MSI Z97 Gaming 5 Samsung 850 SSD i5 4690k evga gtx 970 sc corsair cx500 Windows 10

I get the A2 error code every now and then when I try to boot up my PC. But the problem is immediately solved when I unplug my SSD from the sata port and plug it into another sata port (though sometimes I have to try multiple ports before it goes through). It's not unbearable but it is quite annoying and frustrating to have to open up my case and swap ports every time I boot my rig up. Help would be greatly appreciated!

Network does not show connected computers.

Small home network. 3PCs (all running Windows 10), 1 WDMYCLOUD NAS. I am NOT using Homegroup, but Network.

Before this, when I clicked on Network in Windows Explorer, I would get a list of connected computers/NAS underneath. (I could then click on those and browse shared folders).

Since today when I click on Network that does not happen. I can still see shared Media Devices, Multifuncion Devices, Printers and Storage, but not the machines themselves. The WDMyCLoud NAS shows up as storage, but when I click on it it doesn't direct me to shared folders, but to the cloud IP address.

When I type \WDMYCLOUD (or the name of one of the other 2 machines) in Windows Explorer in the address bar, I CAN connect successfully and I have access to the shared folders. Although this does work for now for trying to save and open files to shared drives I used most often (pinned to Quick access)...it's a bit of a hassle and I would like to fix this if that is possible.

The other 2 computers do not (yet ;) ) have this issue. All connected machines show up when they click on Network.

I have rebooted, chosen 'forget wifi network' and set it up as a new one, made sure I am discoverable and that my PC can be connected to by the other 2, and checked these services

  • DNS Client
  • Function Discovery Resource Publication
  • SSDP Discovery
  • UPnP Device Host

are running.

Thanks in advance!

After that, the spikes will stop but I have to do this every time I turn on the PC. If it's normal surfing, no problem but these ping spikes affect my gaming in multiplayer. please help.
