Can I upgrade my built in 4GB Ram?

Hi.

I have a fairly new laptop with a built in 4GB RAM which runs on 2400mhz. I was wondering if I could increase my RAM to 8GB by adding another 4GB RAM or to 12GB by adding an 8GB to the already built in one.

What are the factors that I have to consider in buying a RAM for upgrade? Assuming I can upgrade my laptop.

I'm fairly new to the whole upgrade/building scene as I plan to build a desktop next year.

More info on the laptop. i5-7300hq Nvidia GTX950m i believe
