My laptop makes a "knocking sound", occasionally.

Sometimes, it happens when I turn on the laptop. Other times, it happens where the computer is on. The noise originates from the right side of my laptop...most of the time. In other situations, it happens elsewhere, like the left. What is it? It is normal, and I just have a noisily operating computer? I just had my hard-drive replaced a week ago, to clarify as detail. Is it related? Thanks!
