Lenovo Y700 14isk - Crashing on tabouts
Specs:
i7 6700HQ
16gb DDR4
Radeon R9 m375 (x?) 4gb DDR3 VRAM
Windows
I have tried reinstalling games and drivers.
Cheap-ish laptop I got for portable gaming. When not traveling, hooked up to a monitor (Dell U2413, see here via HDMI.
So it is a bit convoluded. I know AMD mGPUs are linked to the integrated Intel iGPU. From my understanding, the HDMI port routes it through the iGPU before transferring it to the mGPU - I'm probably wrong but I don't have much experience with laptops.
My issue is that when I am playing games, mostly heavy-use ones (GTAV, Rainbow Six Siege mostly), and I try to tab out while connected to the large monitor, the game will crash. (DX3D device failed to initialize, or something along those lines, or nothing at all besides default crash screen for those games). However, in less intensive games such as CS:GO it will just take a while to load back in but will be fine. This is starting to really bug me and I don't know how to fix it. Coming from my old rig (i5 6600k and GTX 1060) where I could instantly tab out and tab in, this is weird. And what makes it even stranger is I don't remember these issues when not using an external monitor (however, never really noticed anything while traveling. I am away from my laptop currently but will test again and update). I also get really bad frames (14-20fps) in some games, while plugged in on maximize performance mode. This seems to be a known issue however, anyone have a good solution?
Thanks!
