External Exception e06d7363 when cloning drive using Samsung Data Migration
My Dell Inspiron 15r (5520) began showing the signs of drive failure so I purchased a Samsung 860 evo 500gb ssd to replace the HDD. I have no Windows install disk and as I understand the Windows 7 (Home premium 64-bit) key on my laptop is a general Dell OEM key that I would not be able to use on Microsoft's site to redownload so I decided to clone my drive with Samsung's data migration software. It worked for a few seconds then threw up the error in the title. I also tried Macrium Reflect and that clone too failed due to a read error.
From what I read these external exception errors come from an application trying to copy files which have been locked by anti-malware, Windows, etc for a number of reasons. All of the posts that I have been able to find about this error seem to indicate that is most commonly caused by Malwarebytes, but as I just factory reset the laptop there is no anti-malware installed.
I ran chkdsk from a Windows repair disk which came back with a number of unreadable sectors as well as sfc /scannow which was unable to fix autochk.exe and a dll file associated with DX10. Attempts to fix and replace both files produced no results so I saved any important data and factory reset the laptop with the intention of cloning a new install. At that point sfc came back clean however I am still unable to clone the drive with either Samsung or Macrium software. This time while using the Samsung software I am getting a "Heap Corruption Detected: after normal block (#59956)" and "CRT detected the application wrote to memory after end of heap buffer". Googling brings up numerous posts with users experiencing this error while compiling their own code but I have been unable to find the connection to this situation. The pop-up window gives the option to try and debug the application but selecting it gives the error "external exception 80000006".
What should I attempt next to solve this issue?
