Can my PC run 144hz monitor?

I have been wanting to buy a new monitor for quite a while, I was recommended a 144hz monitor and I thought why not, but before I spend my money I am concerned if my PC can run a 144hz monitor.

I play a lot of Overwatch and PUBG, that'd be nice if someone could tell me if it'll work at these games.

PC Specs:

OS: Windows 10

Processor: Intel Core i5-7400 CPU @ 3.00GHz (I think I have 4 cores).

RAM: 16GB

Display Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080

I also have a 240GB SSD if that helps in some way.

I am pretty inexperienced, but if there's anything I need to upgrade in order to own and enjoy a 144hz monitor please mention it.
