Please help on choosing an SSD for my laptop

I could really use your help on this one. I generally don't know much about hardware especially when it comes to compatibility and I want to be extra careful so I could use some professional help.

I own a 4-5 years old Toshiba SATELLITE L870-17M laptop and it got very very slow over the years. I'm not sure but I assume the HDD wore out and that's where most of my problems come from. So I started to think about replacing hard drive and getting an SSD.

Now... my question is what should I look for compatibility wise? Are there certain SSD's that may or may not work with my system. Would "Samsung 860 EVO 500GB 2.5 Inch SATA III Internal SSD" be a good choice?
