disk read error on boot win 10
drive: sandisk m2 ssd 250gb os: win 10 motherboard:asus h170-pro bios version: 0903
im getting a disk read error when trying to boot up my PC.(updated win 10 this morning and when it tried to reboot i got the issue) I have cleared the cmos, I have taken out every other drive and tried, then taken out the m2 and put it back in after gently brushing it to see if there was any dirt in there.
I tried the win 10 boot disk on a usb to fix it, and it refused. i tried using the cmd window from boot disk to run bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd, bootrec.exe /fixmbr, bootrec.exe /fixboot. fixboot gives access denied. i tried the solution here https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-update/windows-10-bootrec-fixboot-access-is-denied/747c4180-7ff3-4bc2-b6cc-81e572d546df?page=2&rtAction=1520351969922 to fix that and no luck.
I can use a bootable usb (Gandalf’s Windows 10PE) to access all of my drives and all the data on them just fine from what i can tell. HWinfo64 says the boot drive is okay. it reads the ram, drives and graphics cards as all running fine from what i can tell.
I have spent the past 6 hours trying to get this pc running without doing a fresh install. However if I can't fix it by tomorrow the boot drive is on its own so using the bootable usb I can copy the os onto another drive, to avoid losing files, and just do a fresh install.
this is the 2nd time in the past 2 years that this m2 drive has had an issue like this resulting in a reinstall. both win 10.
anyone got any ideas how to fix this? or do i just reinstall...
