Will i be able to get max output from an M.2 960 evo ssd by using this adapter on my Z97 motherboard?

I have an Asus z97 maximus 7 hero motherboard and i'm purchasing a Samsung 960 EVO M.2 500GB SSD. I read on forums that since my mobo is older, it has PCIE 2 slot and to get max performance from the SSD, i will need an adapter. My brother has an x99 asus board and I checked the box today and found an Asus Hyper M.2 X4 Mini Card inside. So if i insert the ssd inside the card and then put it in my PC, will i be able to get full speed from the SSD?
