Ethernet sometimes remains connected but shows NO internet on it

I don't know what the cause of this is and I've tried some fixes such as ipconfig /release then renew and it fixes the problem but I was wondering if there was any way to stop the problem from occurring in the first place. Prevention is better than cure.
