Windows Apps Problems Top Rescuecom's Repair Report

Windows Applications top the list of computer repair problems in the latest Rescuecom Computer Repair Report, making up 32 percent of the issues. Windows operating system and viruses/spyware/malware/pop-up ads rounded out the top three, which accounts for 63 percent of all problems. TV problems, on the other hand, accounted for 0.1 percent of issues.

Windows apps, particularly Universal apps, run the same across Microsoft's PCs, tablets and phones, without needing special code. However, at least in the past year, it seems that in Rescuecom's experience, every new build release to Windows 10 breaks something. For example, the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 didn't support USB 2 web cameras. Microsoft eventually fixed the problem, but if your company simply can't wait for a formal fix you can always use the Windows rollback feature to uninstall the update.

The full list of reported computer problems reported in the 2017 list include:
1. Windows Applications: 32 percent
2. Windows OS: 17.1 percent
3. Virus/Spyware/Malware/Pop-Up Ads: 13.9 percent
4. Internet Connectivity: 7.6 percent
5. Running Slow: 7 percent
6. Email Trouble: 6 percent
7. Printer Woes: 6 percent
8. Computer Won't Boot: 4.1 percent
9. Data Recovery: 2.6 percent
10. Hardware Problems: 2 percent
11. User Caused: 1 percent
12. Mac Applications: 0.4 percent
13. Phone Problems: 0.3 percent
14. Mac OS: 0.1 percent
15. TV Problems: 0.1 percent

The first three items in the list may be unsurprising. But I was unprepared to see Internet Connectivity that high. If this is one of your company's bigger issues, my first advice is to turn it off and turn it back on again; meaning unplug the modem, plug it back in, then reboot your computer. If you're running slow, Rescuecom recommends you make sure your hard drive has at least 20 percent of free space.

While Mac's are known to be less fussy than PCs, they aren't immune. Rescuecom reports that problematic apps causing computer performance issues were the biggest complaint, leading customers to need help uninstalling software. The repair company recommends sticking to Apple-approved apps from the App Store to best combat this problem.

The 2017 Rescuecom Computer Repair Report is based on the company's support in the U.S., Canada and U.K. and the data comes from the "tens of thousands of tech support calls annually." The company analyzes that data from these calls to form the report.

certain keys on my keyboard dont work when "cold"

Hi guys, i have a Lenovo Y520-15IKBN (80WK) and certain keys on the keyboard don't work (e,g,h,8,9,Fn...) but only when the weather is cold. for example in the winter it used to work after certain amount of time when i first boot the laptop and stops working when i stop using it for a while, but now that the weather is hot it works just fine except for the first couple of minutes or when its colder. of course i do realise that it has nothing to do with the outside weather but with the temperature of the computer itself. can someone explain to me why this is happening and how it should be fixed as i cannot take it to the tech service until july even though it's still under warranty because i need it for school. ps: an external keyboard works fine. Old PC with a Foxconn n15235 motherboard needs drivers! Help!!

So my Pc corrupted and I had to fresh install windows on it, but now its missing 3 drivers and one of them is for the Ethernet controller! I've tried searching everywhere for the windows 7 drivers but all I seem to find are some dodgey programs saying they will install it for me. Problem is without the ethernet driver I can't bloody connect to the internet. I've been using a USB to try get some drivers on there, but they just end up being useless programmes . I'm also a bit of a noob at these things, I don't understand where to find the names of things in my PC, I've opened it up but I don't understand whats significant and what isnt. If someone has the drivers and can teach me how to install them I'd be very appreciative! Submitted April 29, 2018 at 02:47PM by darrilsteady https://ift.tt/2r76xMZ
